Credo EV 900 Ref.
Less can be more.
One mid-woofer, one tweeter, nothing more. You hear it from the first record: a voice that stands still in the room, a piano with its full weight, bass that stays clean underneath, and an ease that lasts the whole evening.
The EV 900 Ref. sits between the EV 350 Ref. and the EV 1202 Ref.: the focus of a two-way monitor, with the foundation of a floorstanding cabinet.
01 · Listening
Direct, and at ease.
The coherence of the EV 900 Ref. comes from its filter design. Credo’s own crossover curves, gentle at first and progressively steeper, give it a near-ideal step response: tweeter and mid-woofer arrive as one, and the music reaches you as one piece, in tone and in time.
The bass reaches down with control rather than bloom. The midrange stays whole, so a voice sounds like a person, not a frequency range. The treble is clean and clear, and never calls attention to itself. Turn it up and it keeps its composure.
Credo has always followed one principle: less can be more. No model in the range shows it more clearly.
02 · The room
Made for the rooms people live in.
The EV 900 Ref. is at home in living and listening rooms of medium size, at short to medium listening distances, where a loudspeaker should be present in the music, not in the room. It stands on its own isolation base, decoupled from the floor, and asks for no subwoofer in the corner. For larger rooms and higher levels, the EV 1202 Ref. has more headroom.
03 · Design
One idea, carried forward.
The EV 900 Ref. belongs to Credo’s oldest line. A 900 stood at the beginning of the AcusticA range, became the SPC 900, and grew into today’s EV 900 Ref. Each generation took the same idea further instead of starting over; the range carries it in its name: EV, for Evolution.
For the EV 900 Ref., Michael Kraske chose a 5.5-inch sliced-paper mid-woofer with symmetrical drive, whose cone stays calm where ordinary paper begins to break up, and a coated 1-inch textile-dome tweeter, both custom-made in Denmark. The crossover follows Credo’s own filter curves, gentle at first and progressively steeper, which keeps the impulse response clean. The drivers are aligned in time electrically, so the front baffle can stay upright and quiet.

04 · Finishes and build
Restrained, and made by hand.
Swiss Pear, Rough-Cut and Silk Touch. The rough-cut surface came from interior designers in North America and Scandinavia who combine the modern and the natural; it was chosen purely for how it looks and feels. Mechanical parts, terminals and crossovers are made in our own workshop in Switzerland, the boards are equipped by hand, and the cabinets are milled on our own CNC machines. The drivers and key components come from specialists in Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.
Not built to fit a price point, but to sound right in a real room.

Measurements
What the measurements show.
Listening decides, but measurement keeps the listening honest. The full AES/CTA-2034-A measurement set, as published for the EV 350 Ref. and the EV 1202 Ref., is in preparation for the EV 900 Ref. The datasheet already shows the essentials.
An easy load.
The impedance runs smooth, from 3.2 Ω at its lowest to 10 Ω at its highest, without the sharp dips that stress an amplifier. Our rule follows IEC 60268-5: no dip more than 20 % below the rated impedance, and no correction circuits in the crossover to hide one. With 89 dB sensitivity, that makes the EV 900 Ref. an easy partner for amplifiers of every kind.
Precise in time.
Credo’s filter slopes start gently and grow progressively steeper. That keeps the impulse response clean, and the electrical time alignment lets tweeter and mid-woofer arrive together at the listening seat. The start of a note is sharp, and that is where the precision comes from.
Clean down low.
The sliced paper cone stays free of break-up, so one mid-woofer can carry the music from the bass up to the tweeter in a single piece, with a gentle hand-over. The bass reaches down to around 40 Hz.
Listening level
How loud is right?
Most music is enjoyed far more quietly than loudspeaker brochures suggest. Professional mixing rooms work to a reference level of 83 to 85 dB, with peaks about 20 dB higher. In a living room, the same music feels just as loud at 76 to 78 dB, because you sit closer to the loudspeakers and to the walls.

This matters, because hearing changes with level. The equal-loudness contours, first mapped by Fletcher and Munson, show that the ear loses sensitivity to bass and treble as the level drops, while the midrange stays prominent. A loudspeaker has to keep its full balance at real living-room levels, not only when it is played loud.
It is also why we don’t chase high efficiency. A passive loudspeaker that stays linear down into the deep bass reaches about 89 dB per 2.83 V at most; a higher figure on paper is paid for with weaker bass, exactly where the ear needs help at home. We design each model for its room size and listening distance instead.
The amplifier follows from there. We calculate it the way cinema and studio engineers do, to the CEA/CEDIA method: room volume, listening distance, reference level, peaks and honest headroom. For the EV 900 Ref., we recommend around 50 W RMS; its smooth 4 Ω load and 89 dB sensitivity make it easy to drive. Tell us about your room, and we will calculate it for you.

What is the Credo EV 900 Ref.?
A two-way floorstanding loudspeaker by Credo Audio Switzerland, with one 5.5-inch mid-woofer and a 1-inch tweeter. It sits between the EV 350 Ref. and the EV 1202 Ref. and is built in-house in Switzerland.
What room suits it?
Living and listening rooms of medium size, at short to medium listening distances. For larger rooms and higher levels, the EV 1202 Ref. has more headroom.
Do I need a subwoofer with it?
In most living rooms, no. The bass reaches down to around 40 Hz, and the loudspeaker stands on its own isolation base, decoupled from the floor.
What amplifier suits it?
It depends less on the loudspeaker than on your room and how loud you listen. We calculate it from room volume, listening distance and reference level. As a guide, around 50 W RMS; its smooth 4 Ω impedance and 89 dB sensitivity make it an easy load.
